LITTLE ROCK – The 40th annual March for Life is set for Sunday, Jan. 21, the same day that Southern Baptists mark Sanctity of Life Sunday.

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is the keynote speaker for the event. Other speakers include Ken Shaddox, senior pastor of Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock, and Anthony Taylor, Bishop of the Diocese of Little Rock.

The March for Life will start at 2 p.m. behind the Arkansas State Capitol as marchers make their way down Capitol Avenue and circle the Capitol before coming together on the steps for a short program, according to Rose Mimms, executive director of Arkansas Right to Life.

The annual observance attracts thousands of Arkansans from across the state to remember the estimated 60 million unborn children who have been killed by legal abortion, said Mimms.

This event, sponsored by Arkansas Right to Life, will remember the 45th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States on January 22, 1973.

“Since we began marching 40 years ago, more and more people are joining us in our work to save the lives of the unborn through education and political action” said Mimms. “This awareness has resulted in many pro-life laws passed and the steady decline in the number of abortions, but we will keep marching until respect for all human life is restored.”
