Emil Turner: 'Jesus is for everyone'

CABOT – Emil Turner, executive director of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC), spoke from Colossians during the Tuesday evening session of the ABSC Annual Meeting, which took place Oct. 30-31 at First Baptist Church, Cabot.

Members of the ABSC Executive Board and staff gather pray for retiring Executive Director Emil Turner and wife, MaryTurner announced his intention to retire effective February 2013 at the Aug. 2 meeting of the ABSC Executive Board.

Turner focused on Colossians 1:28-29, which says, “We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ. For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.”

Turner explained that the passage deals with the burden and obligation Paul felt for the lost world.

Turner summed up his thoughts on the verses in four phrases: “only One,” “Jesus is for everyone,” “we have to ‘go all out’” and “power within.”

“God has given you supernatural power so that the people you know can be saved,” Turner said, explaining, “There’s only One, He’s for everyone, we proclaim Him 'all out in God’s power so more people go to heaven and less people go to hell.”
