JoyWorks camp moves date in 2012

Mark Your Calendars now for JoyWorks, a music and worship arts camp for children, which will be held June 26-29 on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia.

In previous years, the camp, which is open to children who have completed grades 4-6, was held earlier in June.

Camp planners made the decision to change the dates to later in the month in order to “enhance participation” in the camp and to avoid coinciding with vacation Bible schools and summer baseball games, which are often scheduled during those first few weeks of summer, said Larry Grayson, Arkansas Baptist State Convention leadership and worship team member and JoyWorks planner.

Grayson said he was thankful for Ouachita, which “graciously allowed us to move to another date.”

Tithing emphasis available

Arkansas Baptist State Convention churches spend an average of 42 percent of their budget on personnel. Are you wondering if you can afford that new staff member or to move your bi-vocational pastor to full-time? Try this rule of thumb: Ask yourself, “Can we make the staffing change and still spend less than 50 percent of our budget on total personnel expenditures?”

Arkansas pastors have an opportunity to pre-order a four-week tithing emphasis called Traction: Living in Sync with God. It is provided at no charge to churches willing to use it sometime next year. Order or see more information at

Student Missions Roundtable dates set

What should I do to lead students to adopt a biblical missions lifestyle? How do I lead my students to take the gospel into their schools? How do I choose where to go on a mission trip? How do I finance mission trips? Is an in-state mission trip really that helpful? When is a student ready for an international trip? Can my group adopt a church planter or missionary?

Find the answers to these questions and more at the Student Missions Roundtable, a free conference for full-time, part-time or volunteer adult leaders of students in Arkansas Baptist churches.

Participants can choose from an identical conference on either Thursday, Dec. 1 or Saturday, Dec. 3. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arkansas Baptist State Convention building, located at 10 Remington Dr., in Little Rock.
